How "The Method" Works

Strengthen all children’s critical thinking skills.

Instrumental Enrichment

Feuerstein’s Instrumental Enrichment(FIE) builds critical thinking skills by strengthening the associated core cognitive functions. Based on the mediation of increasingly complex paper and pencil, visually-stimulating “instruments”, FIE has been successfully implemented for over 50 years and documented by thousands of scientific research studies with diverse populations. FIE has been translated into 28 languages and is used in over 80 countries worldwide.

FIE has been widely celebrated internationally for use in low-performing high school math students (Cleveland, Ohio), struggling readers in middle grades (Portland, Oregon), impoverished students in rural communities (Bahia, Brazil; Sioux Narrows, Ontario), non-literate immigrants (Ethiopia), children with Autistic features and Down Syndrome (Jerusalem), general education students (Holly, Michigan; South Euclid, Ohio), charter school populations (Honolulu, Hawaii; Marion, Indiana) and many other under and over-achieving student groups. Projects in Alaska, New York, Indiana and around the world are utilizing FIE with young children as a way to avoid the over-categorization of students as “learning disabled.”

FIE is available in two versions, BASIC and STANDARD, depending on the needs of your teaching population. For more information, please refer to the FIE/THINKING program descriptions of our website under the relevant teaching grade or contact us toll free at (877) 474-4900 or email
